30-MINUTE CORE SCULPT WITH Steve Jordan

August 2019…gotta get back to this!
This year has been tough on our minds and bodies. Having my gym, Orange Theory Fitness, closed has been disastrous for me. It was a 60-minute fat-burning workout that never felt like an hour. In addition, having my kids home 24/7 hasn’t left me with much time to do anything for myself. When I stop to think about it all, I know I’m no good to anyone around me if I don’t take care of myself. So when my longtime friend, Steve Jordan, announced he was launching a 30-minute training session three times per week, I thought, “I can do that. I actually need to do at least that.”
When I first launched this blog, I wrote a post with tips to be healthy and fit. It was all invaluable information that I learned during an interview with Steve. The great thing about Steve is that he’s very much aware of just how much life has changed since March, and he’s evolving and adapting to help us all look and feel our best.

Steve just began a new four-week Core Sculpt class via on.Zoom.us. Each week there are three 30-minute sessions—Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 3 pm EST. For four weeks, the focus will be on the core, which is everything but your arms and legs. (That said, I still worked my arms and legs in the process). The idea is that you can get a full and beneficial workout in 30 minutes if you keep moving. Steve incorporates the “active rest” into his workouts. As an example, we performed 20 reps of a standing crossover crunch on each side to work our abs. But instead of a pure rest after completing the set, we did jumping jacks. This allowed us to rest the abdominal muscles we were working while still keeping our heart rate elevated. So in 30 minutes, you’re constantly working but not wearing yourself out.
Throughout the session, Steve can see you and provide feedback to improve your form to maximize the benefit you’re getting. At one point during the mountain climbing exercise, my own form was corrected because my big butt was too high (the reality…not what he said…he’s much more professional!) An added bonus is that all you need is a mat, so you can do this workout almost anywhere. Your own body’s resistance serves as your weight.
The first class of this session was Tuesday, November 10, and this 4-week session runs through December 5. But don’t worry if you missed the first session because you can still get in on the action. Each drop-in session is only $5. No, that’s not a typo. $5. So skip the Starbucks that day, make your own coffee or tea, and do your body some good! If you didn’t click through to my past blog post on Steve, you should know that he has and continues to train some of Hollywood’s A-list. He embraces and teaches a total mind, body, and soul commitment, and you’ll get more than just a workout for your body in this 30 minutes. During this first session, we ended with a short meditation, focusing on gratitude, which left me feeling like I was on the path to looking and feeling better emotionally. Feel free to message Steve on Instagram or email if you have any questions. Hope you’ll join me soon on the mat!
