GRAPE COMPOTE: TO WEAR AND NOT TO EAT
Jennifer Mejia
Several months before every new fashion season, Pantone announces its colors trends. They always have interesting names. You’ll never hear just blue or green. For Spring 2020, blue and green are represented by Classic Blue, Mosaic Blue, Biscay Green, and Chive. But one of my favorite colors for the upcoming season is Grape Compote. AKA lavender. Were any of you obsessed with “The Wedding Planner” like I was? Jennifer Lopez wore a lot of lavender in that movie. It’s soft, feminine, and calming. Isn’t that what Steve ultimately wanted and needed? Perhaps that was the beginning of my attraction to this color.
I’ve always loved lavender, but one has to be careful with it. Otherwise you can wind up looking like an Easter egg. You get what I mean, right? When I saw this blouse, I had to have it. Everything about it, beyond the color, was me. It’s sheer and feminine, and the ruffled neck and cuffs, along with the pleats, make it absolutely exquisite. But if this blouse isn’t for you, and you want to wear your grape compote this season, in addition to eating it, I’ve chosen a few favorite pieces in lavender (and purple).
