THE ESSENTIAL WHITE BUTTON DOWN SHIRT

If there is one wardrobe item that EVERY woman (and man) must have in their closet, it’s a white button down shirt. Why? Because of its versatility. It’s the shirt that you can reach for to resolve so many “what do I wear today?” dilemmas. Take this sequins skirt (my favorite purchase this holiday season), for example. I tried five other top options with it, and none seemed as perfect as this white button down.

But aside from wearing with this sequins skirt or my green skirt from this holiday season, there are so many other options. Shall I list them for you?

1. Under a v-neck sweater.

2. Under a crew neck sweater.

3. Alone with worn denim jeans (or any other color/wash).

4. Under a blazer.

5. With a dressy skirt with the collar popped and a great necklace (or layered necklaces).

How many more options can you think of? So here’s the thing. All white shirts are not created equally. In most cases, if you’re going to have just one white shirt, I’d recommend a crisp one…one that holds its shape, especially the collar. It should be slightly tailored if you want to wear it under sweaters and blazers but also not too fitted because you’ll want the ability to tie it in the front, as I have with my green skirt.
